What is Lent?

Lent is a period of 40 days leading up to the resurrection of Christ at Easter.  Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and other Key dates are Good Friday and Easter Day itself.

This period of time is a time for prayer, for fasting and for almsgiving.

Whilst many are familiar with practice of fasting and abstaining from meat on Fridays during this period, we are also asked to fast in many ways and practise self-discipline during Lent.

Lent for many (myself included) is also a time for prayer, seeking forgiveness, forgiving others and giving.

Whilst lent has started it is never too late to begin your journey to Easter.

As with our website much of our inspiration comes from the bible, we have numerous bible verse SVG and PNG Images celebrating this.  When I think of Easter and this particular Lent period this bible verse stands out for me:

Joel 2:12-14

“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing— grain offerings and drink offerings for the LORD your God.
